The wildly popular children's television show Yo Gabba Gabba! is coming to a theater near you this summer and fall! Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!: There's A Party In My City! is going live on a 60-city tour throughout North America beginning on Aug. 27 at Bethel Woods in Bethel, NY, and ending on Nov. 9 at The E Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Though the tour has yet to begin, Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! has already debuted for a sold out crowd at the White House, appeared at the Coachella Fest 2010, and released an album. The second Yo Gabba Gabba! album "Yo Gabba Gabba!: Music Is Awesome Volume Two" is scheduled for release in September.
Yo Gabba Gabba! was developed by two California fathers Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz who shared a mutual disappointment in children's shows and wanted to do something about it. Though Jacobs and Schultz had no previous experience in television writing, they created a pilot with their vision of an educational and entertaining TV show that features real artists and performers.
Their pilot, which circulated online, was viewed by Napoleon Dynamite/Nacho Libre director Jared Hess who contacted Nickelodeon Preschool. Yo Gabba Gabba! first aired on Nickelodeon in August 2007.
The series is hosted by DJ Lance Rock, who introduces five brightly colored, unique characters: Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee and Plex. Each character is involved in different musical numbers and sketches. The show also features a guest segment, which appeals to both young and old alike.
In the first two seasons of Yo Gabba Gabba!, musical guests like MGMT, The Ting Tings, Of Montreal and Enon were featured, as well as Tony Hawk, Laila Ali, Jack Black and Elijah Wood.
