The Lion King is among the most visually stunning stage presentations of all time, featuring elaborate make up and puppetry to recreate the animal kingdom from the Disney animated film of the same name.
The musical, directed by Julie Taymore, debuted in 1997 on Broadway and was an instant success. The show spawned productions in the West End, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul Paris and Johannesburg, among others.
The show tells the tale of Simba, the adventurous lion cub who will one day be King of Pride Rock. He is tricked by his evil uncle, Scar, and eventually settles into a life with Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog, in the jungle. Simba grows up in a laid-back mode, eventually returning home with love interest Nala to take his rightful position.
The heartwarming and often humorous tale is told on a beautifully crafted backdrop of Elton John and Tim Rices songs, including some massive hits such as Circle of Life," Hakuna Matata," and Can You Feel the Love Tonight."
The show has been a fan favorite across the globe for a decade, and the show continues to be massively successful.
