The award-winning musical Ragtime is celebrating 11 years of Broadway with nearly 200 shows at the Neil Simon Theatre in NYC!
Based on E.L. Docotorow's 1975 novel of the same name, Ragtime tells the story of three groups in America: a Harlem musician, a WASP matriarch, and a Jewish immigrant. With music including cakewalks, gospel, marches and, of course, ragtime, this musical is fun for the whole family.
The musical introduces the three families: The upper-class white Anglo-Saxon Protestants, WASPs; African Americans and Eastern European Jewish immigrants. Though they remain in different socio-economic groups, the three families manage to forge a series of relationships which benefits them all.
The musical has won numerous awards, including a 1998 Tony award for 'Best Book of a Musical,' 'Best Original Musical Score,' and 'Best Orchestrations.' It also won a 1998 Drama Desk Award for 'Outstanding New Musical,' 'Outstanding Book of a Musical,' 'Outstanding Orchestrations,' 'Outstanding Lyrics,' and 'Outstanding Music.'
Notable actors for this year's performances include Quentin Earl Darrington as Coalhouse Walker, Jr.; Christiane Noll as Mother; and Ron Bohmer as Father. The production is directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge.
