Irenas Vow News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
The critically-acclaimed production Irena's Vow is currently showing on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City - the run will end September 6th, after 25 shows.

The play, written by Dan Gordon, was based upon the tale of Irene Gut-Opdyke, a Polish-Catholic nurse. After she was caught by the German Army and used as a slave laborer to a German Army Major, she observed the horrific treatment of Jews in the German-occupied Poland. She resolved to risk her life to help 12 Jews out of Germany to safety.

After Gut's employer found she was concealing the Jews in his house, he agreed to stay silent and not turn them in. She became the officer's mistress, and was eventually able to flee with the people she was protecting. After the war, she was able to immigrate to the United States.

Four-time Tony Award nominee Tovah Felshuh, SandiCarroll, Tracee Chimo and Steven Hauck star in the show.
