Hairspray Tickets

Hairspray just kicked off an extended 172-show stint at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City through November 20th, 2009, and will perform at the Orange County Fair in California, Shaftesbury Theater in London, and seven stops at The Muny in Forest Park, MO, in coming months.

The musical, which was turned into a hit film of the same name in 1988 and 2008, showcases serious vocal chops and a nostalgic variety of rhythm and blues while telling the heartwarming story of chubby Tracy Turnblad's ascent to teenage celebrity as a dancer on The Corny Collins Show based out of Baltimore, Maryland.

Turnblad and her trusty best friend, Penny Pingleton, finally make their way to auditions for the Corny Collins Show. Turnblad catches the eye of the host, but evil dance queen Amber Von Tussle and her mother Velma plan to ruin her budding career. Turnblad beats the Von Tussles, gets the boy and even integrates the show in the Civil Rights Era, all with her entertaining brand of spunk.

The show features songs such as "You Can't Stop the Beat," "Without Love," "Good Morning Baltimore," and "I Can Hear the Bells," among many others - many of which aren't found in the film releases!

The original Broadway production opened in August of 2002 and took home eight out of thirteen Tony Award nominations.
