Cirque Du Soleil, the entertainment company that is known for its unique style and themed-shows, is bringing something new to the stage this year: OVO. Cirque Du Soleil OVO tells the story of a colorful insect habitat that stumble upon an egg "ovo" in Portuguese and the things that happen to their community after their discovery.

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté always had dreams of performing, whether it was as a folk musician, street performer or fire breather, all of which he did after quitting college. After working a three day stint at a hydroelecrtic power plant that began a labor strike, Laliberté gathered his unemployment insurance and organized a small summer fair.

With his friends Daniel Gauthier and Gilles Ste-Croix, Laliberté won the hearts and wallets of Quebec City and started their very own performing troupe from a group of performers at a youth hostel. Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul, as the group was known, toured throughout 1980.
After several years of trial and error, the Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul would become what we know as Cirque Du Soleil today.

The most recent Cirque Du Soleil show is OVO, a production that takes the audience into a world of acrobatic ants, leaping crickets, stretching spiders and bouncing butterflies as they discover a mysterious egg in their habitat. Along the way, the plot thickens with a romance between an odd insect and his ladybug love.

OVO is unique because it is the first ever Cirque show to be created and directed by a woman. Brazilian native Deborah Colker brings her Latin heritage to the stage with a dash of Brazilian music and dance performances, as well as the traditional circus feats that many have come to know and expect.
