The Addams Family (the musical) is back on Broadway just in time for Halloween. New York City's Lunt Fontanne Theatre is bringing everyone's favorite spooky characters to the stage from Sept. 30 all the way through January 2011. The production stars two Broadway veterans: Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth.
The musical is based on the cartoons created by Charles Addam rather than any of the television shows or films that have come about since then. It first came to the stage in April 2010 where it won a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award.
The stage opens on the Addams family hosting their family reunion in a graveyard, when they are met with a request by Uncle Fester.
It seems that Wednesday has invited her (normal) boyfriend and his parents to dinner. She admits, while torturing Pugsley on a rack, that love has changed her, which causes her parents to wonder how they've gone wrong.
At dinner, during which the family attempts to act normal, everything and anything goes awry in the midst of Wednesday announcing that she and her boyfriend, Lucas, are getting married. This causes chaos between both families, but before anyone can leave, a terrible storm traps them inside the house.
With all the married couples fighting, Uncle Fester testing out a rocket, and Lurch getting involved with a squid, does Wednesday and Lucas' engagement stand a chance?
