MLS All-Star Game 2009 Preview
Posted 7/26/2009
The MLS All-Star game is probably the most exciting soccer game of the year in the United States outside of the league's championship game.
The game will take place this year on July 29 at 9:30 p.m. in Salt Lake City at Rio Tinto Stadium, which is also the home of an MLS team.
The best part about the game is the fact that the MLS All-Stars don't split into two squads based on their conference but rather play as one team.
They will take on the Everton FC roster, which features fantastic players from all across the globe.
There will be many of the league's brightest stars invited to this year's game, including numerous players with ties to national teams.
Stars like Landon Donovan, Kasey Keller, Brad Davis, Stuart Holden and Javier Morales will be participants in this year's game.
To get an idea of how far the MLS has come, take this into consideration; when the first All-Star game was held, only two teams had stadiums specifically built for soccer. In 2009, that number has grown to 10 teams.
The league has also obviously expanded over the past decade, but more teams have soccer specific stadiums than not in 2009.
