Chicago Fire 2009 Season Update
Posted 7/19/2009
The Chicago Fire has gotten off to a strong star this year, going 6-3-7 en route to sole possession of first place in their division.
Surprisingly, Chicago hasn't gotten fat at home. They are just 1-2-3 on their home turf, but their road record is a league-best 5-1-3.
They recent came away with a 1-1 draw at D.C. United, which is certainly a positive result on foreign turf for the Fire.
Things didn't get off to a very start in the first few games of the year, as the Fire followed up an opening day win with three consecutive losses, two of which were at home.
However, the Fire was then able to rebound with three straight victories to move back above the .500 mark before recording five straight draws.
Brian McBride, who has seen plenty of time over the years with the United States national team, leads the club with six goals. Marco Pappa has scored five times.
Chicago is looking to improve on last year's very respectable 13-10-7 finish, and they are on pace to do just that.
