The Oklahoma Sooners rebounded from a disappointing 2009 season with a strong start to 2010, but a tough loss at Missouri has put their national championship hopes on hold for the moment.
Quarterback Landry Jones has been a model of inconsistency, looking fantastic at times and transitioning into a turnover machine moments later. He does lead the No. 12 offense in the country in terms of passing yards, but he needs to do a better job of taking care of the football.
Oklahoma's offense overall has been a bit of a disappointment considering the talent on that side of the ball. Running back DeMarco Murray is heading for a 1,000 yard season, but his numbers have not put him in the Heisman Trophy race.
The defense under Bob Stoops is usually stingy, but the Sooners rank just 28th overall in points allowed, giving up over 19 per contest. The team has a habit of building a big lead early in the game and then getting complacent, which has allowed for some finishes much too close for comfort.
The Big 12 title is still very much up for grabs, and the Sooners remain right in the middle of the race to get to the championship game. They are tied in the loss column in the South division with both Baylor and Oklahoma State.
The Bears have come out of nowhere to be one of this year's biggest surprises, while the Cowboys were expected to field a pretty good team. However, neither team has the talent of Oklahoma, who should end up in the conference title game against Nebraska or Missouri.
