Winnipeg Jets 2011-12 Season Preview
The Atlanta Thrashers are no more, having moved to Winnipeg and once again becomeingthe Jets. The town finally has hockey again, and you can expect a lot of excitement throughout the season.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the team the city will inherit was one of the worst in the Eastern Conference last season. It also doesn't help that their division features quality teams in Washington and Carolina. Yes, oddly enough, Winnipeg will remain in the Southeast Division.
It's going to be an extremely difficult year for the Jets in terms of travel because they will play so many games against their divisional opponents from the Southeast.
Winnipeg needs help both offensively and defensively, making the task of improving the team a bit overwhelming. To make matters worse, the team wasn't exactly active in free agency, with their biggest addition being Eric Fehr.
It will be interesting to see how the players and coaches are able to adjust to the move to a new city. It may take awhile, but they will probably appreciate all of the support they will receive in Winnipeg compared to the lousy attendance they had in Atlanta.
