Washington Capitals 2010-11 Season Preview The Washington Capitals took the next step by finishing with the best record in the NHL last season, but all they had to show for it was an abrupt, early exit from the playoffs.

The Capitals ran into a buzzsaw with Montreal's hot goaltender, ruining their dreams of a Stanley Cup title before they could even get out of the first round.

Washington comes into this season believing that the team is fully capable of once again finishing the regular season as the NHL's top team, only this time they think they can take care of business and bring home the cup.

With the Capitals, everything begins and ends with Alexander Ovechkin.
He is the NHL's most talented player and is so dangerous because of the number of different things that he brings to the table.

Alexander Semin has comparable talent to Ovechkin, but lacks the consistency and desire to be one of the game's best. The team contemplated dealing Semin in the offseason but ultimately held onto him. It's going to be a make-or-break season for Semin as to whether or not he remains with the Capitals.

Washington should once again be a force to be reckoned with, but they need to show they can get it done when it counts the most: in the playoffs. Another early playoff exit won't be acceptable, but neither should anything short of a Stanley Cup appearance.
