Washington Capitals 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
It's been an interesting first half of the season for the Washington Capitals, who have somehow managed to emerge from it all still clinging to first place in the Southeast Division.
Many predicted this would finally be the year that the Capitals get over the hump and win the Stanley Cup, but haven't we heard that a few times before? The Capitals got off to a roaring start before stumbling, which ultimately lead to the firing of head coach Bruce Boudreau.
Former Capital Dale Hunter took over the helm, and the team has been equally as inconsistent under him as they were under Boudreau. The one area where Washington has been quite successful is at the Verizon Center, as they hold one of the top records in the league when playing on home ice.
It's still hard to figure out how this season might end for the Capitals, but they certainly have been hardened by fighting through their share of adversity. Maybe this year they will find momentum at just the right time and finally crash the Stanley Cup party.
