Vancouver Canucks 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/13/2010
The Vancouver Canucks won the Northwest Division title en route to earning one of the top spots in the Western Conference playoffs.
The Canucks can put the puck in the goal with the best of them, and a lot of the credit goes to the Sedin brothers.
Henrik and Daniel Sedin are two of the top scorers in the NHL and just so happen to be brothers playing on the same team. Because of their relation, they have tremendous chemistry and really play well in tandem.
A major red flag with the Canucks is their defense, which has been a major concern all season long. The bottom line is the Canucks simply don't have much of a defense and allow way too many easy scoring opportunities and goals.
The Canucks lost top defenseman Willie Mitchell for the season after he continued to experience headaches after a concussion in January. That obviously didn't help matters.
The only bit of good news is that team's top defenseman, Christian Ehrhoff, did not suffer a serious knee injury and will be able to play in the postseason. Without Ehrhoff on the ice, I shudder to think about the struggles of the Canucks' defense.
Roberto Luongo has not had a great season, and the highlight of this year for him actually came in hockey games played outside of the NHL. Luongo replaced Martin Brodeur as Team Canada's starting goalie and helped lead them to an Olympic gold medal.
Luongo wasn't all that great in the Olympics, either, so he will really need to step it up in the playoffs to give Vancouver a chance to make a deep run.
