Toronto Maple Leafs 09-10 Season Wrap Up
Posted 4/21/2010
It was a downright horrible season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, which finished as the worst team in the Eastern Conference and second worst in all of hockey.

I guess the one positive way to look at such a dreadful season is that the Maple Leafs will get the second overall pick in the NHL Draft.

Goaltending has been a serious problem all season long. The team has given three different net-minders the opportunity to grab the starting job, but none of them seem to want it.

Jonas Gustavsson has gotten the majority of the starts over the course of the season and managed a winning record despite shaky numbers. Vesa Toskala also had a significant number of starts but was absolutely terrible.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere played the best by far out of the three goalies but was limited all season long by injuries. Had he been more healthy, maybe the season would have turned out a little differently for the Maple Leafs.

As poor as the goaltending was at times, Toronto could also use some serious upgrades on the offensive end of the ice. Phil Kessel led the team with just 55 points while Tomas Kaberle added 49.

With the lack of talent on this team, it's likely going to be a few years before the Maple Leafs can even contemplate becoming a contender in the Eastern Conference.
