The St. Louis Blues felt that last year was their shot at the Stanley Cup after making a big splash at the trade deadline, but the team blew a 2-0 lead in the first round of the playoffs to the Blackhawks.

The acquisition of goalie Ryan Miller had St. Louis abuzz, but the season ultimately ended in disappointment. The Miller trade ultimately didn't work out, and he was let go at the end of the season.

Brian Elliott will try to pick up where Miller left off. He will certainly be feeling the heat to perform given that St. Louis has a loaded roster ready to compete for a championship. The good news is the team finished last year third in the NHL in goals allowed per game, so the defense is very good.

David Backes is the heart and soul of what is a very deep team. The team added Paul Stastny in the offseason to lend some support to Backes and try to put the Blues over the top.

St. Louis will be right back where they were last year in the thick of the Western Conference race. While I wouldn't call them a favorite to reach the Stanley Cup, they are one of a handful.

The St. Louis Blues play all their home games at Scottrade Center in St Louis, MO
