The San Jose Sharks currently sit atop the Pacific Division but are getting pressed hard by the second place Los Angeles Kings.

The Sharks finally busted through their label as choke artists in the playoffs last year when they advanced past the first round, but with the talent on their team, they have much bigger goals in mind.

While San Jose is certainly worried about holding off Los Angeles for the division title, they are even more concerned with catching teams like the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Sharks aren't "lighting the lamp" with the regularity they have in past seasons, but their defense has been terrific. Maybe a renewed focus on the defensive end of the ice will change their playoff fortunes in 2012. Expect San Jose to win the division and be one of the top contenders for the Stanley Cup.
