Philadelphia Flyers 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The Philadelphia Flyers made a major playoff push last year, finishing in eighth place in the Eastern Conference to just barely sneak into the postseason.
From there, they made an incredible, improbable run through the Eastern Conference all the way to overtime of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, only to fall short against the champion Chicago Blackhawks.
It was both an exhilirating and highly disappointing/heart-breaking run by the Flyers, whose fans hope that last year's push was just the tip of the iceberg.
The good news is that the Flyers really didn't lose anyone of significance in the offseason, but the bad news is that the team didn't bring in players who will have a major impact on the upcoming season.
A major red flag with the Flyers is their below-average goaltending.
They have a scrappy, tough-minded defense in front of their group of goalies, but playoff hockey often comes down to the team with the hottest net-minder.
Philadelphia still has the same talent as last year, but it's almost impossible to recreate the magic we saw from them in the postseason.
They are pretty much a lock to reach the playoffs, but after that, all bets are off.
