Ottawa Senators 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/13/2010
It wasn't easy, but the Ottawa Senators were able to pull together down the stretch and clinch a playoff berth for a chance to make a run at Lord Stanley's Cup.
The Senators have been feeling really good about themselves of late, believing they are starting to come together as a team and playing their best hockey at the most important time of the year. It's this type of confidence that can carry a team far at this stage, but there are a couple of major roadblocks in the way for an Ottawa postseason run.
Goaltender Brian Elliott is going to really have to step up his game for the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how the inexperienced Elliott reacts to the big stage. He has been known to have the occasional meltdown in net, and that's not really something playoff teams can afford.
Mike Fisher, Daniel Alfredsson and Alexi Kovalev lead a steady offensive attack that works hard around the net to score goals. The veteran Alfredsson has logged over 1,000 career games and is the heart and soul of this team. They will lean on their captain for a significant portion of their offense, and he will have to execute.
Ottawa is playing pretty well of late, but it's still hard to imagine them doing much damage in the playoffs. A trip to the second round is very possible, but a journey to the Eastern Conference Finals is not.
