2009 Ottawa Senators Season Update For Ottawa, 2008-2009 simply hasn't been their season, and it looks as though they are quickly running out of time to make a late push for the playoffs.

The Senators are currently in fourth place in the Northeast Division and outside of the No. 8 seed in the playoffs by double-digit points.

However, there is some good news. The Senators recently fired their head coach and saw immediate results under the Cory Clouston.

The team managed to gain nine out of 10 possible points on a recent road trip, which is quite the feat. If they can continue to duplicate such efforts the remainder of the season, they might just have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs.

It has also helped that team was able to put two injured players back into the lineup again, which certainly never hurts.

Making it all the better is the fact that Ottawa has returned home and has the opportunity to show off their new, aggressive style of hockey in front of their fans. They also have the chance to use home-ice to their advantage and make up some more ground on the teams ahead of them in the standings.

Offense has been the main issue for Ottawa this season. Daniel Alfredsson leads the team with 52 points and 35 assists. Dany Heatley has a team-leading 26 goals, including 11 via the power play.

Ottawa has split time between three goaltenders, all of which have played pretty well. Alex Auld is the best of the bunch with a 2.45 goals against average while Brian Elliott is close behind at 2.51.

Martin Gerber has struggled the most out of the group, giving up 2.89 goals per game with a save percentage under 90. He has since seen his playing time drop significantly.

It's likely a case of too-little, too-late for the Senators, but at least they can build some momentum heading into next season.
