Ottawa Senators 2010-11 Mid-Season Review
Posted 1/31/2011
The Ottawa Senators are currently in last place in the Northeast Division, but the good news is that they really aren't very far from overtaking the two teams above them and making their way into third place.
Daniel Alfredsson said the players are well aware that changes will eventually have to be made if the team continues to struggle so much, but that everyone continues to work as hard as possible to try and improve.
Aldredsson is the team's top player and goal scorer, but has only found the back of the net 14 times this year. That's not going to get the job done for just about any team.
It's pretty bad when the team's top netminder, Brian Elliott, gets a day off because he has lost 10 straight games. That certainly starts to wear on a team, and you have to wonder if you really have a chance to win each game you play.
The team has really struggled over the past month, whether it comes to play in net or ineptness with regard to the power play. If your goaltender isn't stopping shots and you aren't scoring on the power play, it doesn't take long for the losses to start to pile up.
The Senators simply have way too many teams to leapfrog to make the postseason at this point, but they can play better in the second half to build momentum going into next season.
