New York Rangers 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The New York Rangers were a disappointment last year, battling down to the wire but finishing in ninth place in the Eastern Conference and failing to even qualify for the postseason.

Head coach John Tortorella made it clear that he wasn't happy with several players on the team and that they needed to get rid of them and bring in guys who wanted to play his style of hockey.

There were not many big additions or subtractions in the offseason, which could be good or bad news. It will certainly help team chemistry to keep the core group together, but do you want so many key pieces returning for a team that failed to even reach the playoffs?

Henrik Lundqvist is the star of the team, but he didn't get to flash his skills in the postseason like the previous year, when he put a huge scare into the heavily favored Washington Capitals.

Lundqvist saw his statistics take a dip last year, and Tortorella has already made it quite clear that the goaltender will see less ice time this season in order to keep him fresh and healthy. The coach feels it will also result in a bounce back in his play in net.

The Rangers aren't going to be pushing for the Stanley Cup, but there is no excuse for a team with his much talent and a very good head coach not to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
