New York Rangers 2010-11 Mid-Season Review
Posted 1/31/2011
The New York Rangers have bounced back from a disappointing year to be right in the thick of things in the Atlantic Division.
The Rangers currently sit in third place, but they are more than within striking distance of the division-leading Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Of course, it never hurts to have someone the caliber of Henrik Lundqvist in net. He has allowed just over 2.2 goals per game and is stopping 93 percent of the shots he has faced.
The team has recently been a bit banged up and shorthanded because of a bevy of injuries, but head coach John Tortorella has been really happy that his group hasn't been trying to make excuses.
The area where the Rangers could really use some improvement is in the goal-scoring department. They simply don't have one superstar player who can be counted upon to score on a regular basis.
The Rangers are improved from a year ago, and Tortorella did a good job of making changes to get rid of guys who aren't his type. They should be a playoff team, but it's hard to see them leapfrogging the Flyers or Penguins.
