It wasn't a great season from the New York Rangers, but they did just enough to secure a spot in the postseason as the No. 6 seed. Their reward is a very difficult first round matchup against the Washington Capitals, a team that started off terribly but has been one of the hottest clubs in all of hockey over the past month.
The Capitals and Rangers are no strangers when it comes to facing off in the postseason. The two teams have met in the playoffs in four of the past five seasons, so there is a bit of a rivalry there. Washington has usually come out on top because of their offensive firepower, but Henrik Lundqvist can be the ultimate equalizer in goal. Lundqvist has single-handedly beaten the Capitals in the playoffs before, but can he do it again against one of the hottest teams in the league?
New York came into the season with plenty of talent and Stanley Cup hopes, but had a disappointing season that was plagued by injuries. Injuries are still somewhat of an issue for the Rangers, so they won't be at full strength in this series. The Rangers should be able to win a couple of games thanks to their great goaltender, but they simply don't have the goal-scorers to win this series.
