New York Islanders 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The New York Islanders were terrible yet again last year, failing to even get a whiff of the postseason race.
The Islanders finished fifth in their division, 13th overall in the Eastern Conference and finished with a record just below the .500 mark.
Fans are getting restless waiting to root for a winner, or at least the ones that still care. Nassau Coliseum isn't exactly overflowing with fans when the Islanders are in town, and that's something the organization hopes to change starting this year.
The good news is that the Islanders actually did show significant improvement last year, but a collapse down the stretch cost them any chance at battling for one of the final playoff positions.
John Tavares scored 26 goals and 54 points in his rookie season, giving hope that maybe the Islanders aren't as far away from contention as their final record and position in the standings may have indicated.
Don't expect any kind of crazy playoff run this year, but Islanders fans can certainly hold out hope that they will at least get to watch their team play in the postseason for the first time in quite awhile.
