New York Islanders 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The New York Islanders are only a little bit worse than everyone had expected them to be this year as they sit in the cellar of the Atlantic Division.
While the Islanders have to be disappointed that there hasn't been more significant improvement, you have to keep in mind that they play in one of the toughest divisions in hockey. If the Islanders were fortunate enough to play in the Southeast Division, the conversation might be entirely different.
The Islanders have been besieged by injuries, losing the second-most number of games by their regular players in the entire league, so that also has to be taken into consideration when evaluating their play.
New York is playing just .500 hockey at home, and that isn't going to get it done for any team in any sport trying to earn a post-season berth. Hopefully, the Islanders can steer things in the right direction in the second half and at least give their fans something to root for down the stretch.
