New York Islanders 2010-11 Mid-Season Review
Posted 1/31/2011
The New York Islanders have shown some small improvement from last season, but they still sit in fourth place in the Atlantic Division and nowhere near a postseason berth.
The Islanders have been in the midst of a rebuilding process for a few years now, and it's fair to say there has been some disappointment over how little progress has been made in the standings.
The goaltending issue has loomed large over the season and really handicapped the team. Dwayne Roloson and Rick DiPietro have split time in net, but neither has come away with impressive results.
Rolson, who is considered the true starter, has put up the better numbers but somehow has a significantly worse record than DiPietro.
The Islanders also have a problem that their cross-town rival New York Rangers are also having to deal with. The team has no superstar scorer who can be counted upon to put the puck in the net on a regular basis.
A postseason berth is almost impossible at this point, so the Islanders would do well to wipe the slate clean for the second half of the season and just try to finish strong going into next year.
