New Jersey Devils 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The New Jersey Devils are disappointed about the way the team has played in the first half of the season after finishing so strong last year and nearly reaching the playoffs, but all is not lost yet.
While frustration is mounting, the good news is that the Devils haven't dug themselves nearly the same-sized hole they did last year. Because of that, the Devils seems content at the moment to hold onto their most valuable commodities rather than trade them away.
Zach Parise is certainly the star of the bunch, but New Jersey has made it clear that they are not looking to trade him away. Parise is a free agent after the season, so there is significant doubt as to whether the Devils will be able to pony up enough cash to keep him in New Jersey.
The Devils believe that they will be able to retain Parise, which could make his expected departure this summer all the more painful for the franchise.
While New Jersey doesn't seem like a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, they certainly have a chance to battle their way into the Eastern Conference playoffs as one of the last teams to get in.
