Montreal Canadiens 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The Montreal Canadiens made an improbable run as the No. 8 seed through the Eastern Conference to the finals, coming ever so close to a chance to play for the Stanley Cup.
The Canadiens were unbelievable in the playoffs, first knocking off the NHL's best team, the Washington Capitals. They were then able to eliminate the Pittsburgh Penguins, another talented team, before falling short against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Montreal will try and carry the momentum and confidence gained from last year's playoff run into this season.
This might be difficult considering the Canadiens inexplicably traded away goaltender Jaroslav Halak in the offseason despite his dominating playoff performance, which single-handedly carried Montreal deep into the postseason.
The move means backup Carey Price will now be elevated into the role of starting goaltender. The Canadiens must really like what he brings to table if they are willing to get rid of someone as talented as Halak.
It's hard to know what to expect from Montreal given their surprising postseason run and trade of Halak, but Canadiens fans love their hockey and have extremely high hopes for their team.
