Montreal Canadiens 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/13/2010
The Montreal Canadiens did just enough to reach the NHL postseason and have a shot at winning the Stanley Cup. All it takes is a ticket to the dance, and Montreal was able to punch that with a solid regular season performance.
Things get significantly more difficult now in the playoffs as the intensity really starts to ramp up.
One of the team's biggest problems during the regular season was simply deciding on which goaltender was most effective. The team probably still doesn't know who their goalie of the future will be, but Jaroslav Halak played well down the stretch by shutting out two playoff teams and seems to be the guy for now.
Montreal also had trouble finding a killer instinct all season long. The team struggled to clinch their playoff spot at the end of the year, which is never a good sign heading into the postseason.
You want to see teams coming into the postseason hot and hungry, not floundering and thinking about offseason vacation destinations.
All too often the Candiens get a lead in a game and then simply sit on it instead of staying aggressive. It has come back to haunt them several times over, and boy will it hurt them in the playoffs.
Don't expect much out of this team. A trip to the second round would mean they pulled off a significant first-round upset, and getting further than that is really just completely out of the question.
