Montreal Canadiens 2010-11 Mid-Season Review
Posted 1/31/2011
The Montreal Canadiens have overcome the preseason criticism from fans and the media surrounding their decisions at the goaltender position to sit in second place in the Northeast Division behind the Boston Bruins.

The Canadiens are just a few points behind the Bruins, and overtaking them by season's end would assure them of no worse than a No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Montreal just barely snuck into the playoffs last year, their goaltender was scorching hot, and they knocked off a couple of top seeds before falling just short of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Canadiens elected to go with Carey Price in the offseason as their starting goaltender, which perplexed a lot of their fanbase and the hockey community alike.

Price has played pretty well, allowing 2.33 goals per game and stopping 93 percent of the shots he has faced. He has four shutouts on the year and an overall record of 24-15. He's only sat out five games, so there has to be some concern that the Canadiens are overworking him and he could start to wear down during the stretch run.

The Canadiens gained a lot of valuable playoff experience last year, and their stunning success certainly gave them a ton of confidence. They will put pressure on the Bruins throughout the second half of the season, and it wouldn't be all that surprising if they jumped past them to claim the division title.
