Minnesota Wild 09-10 Season Wrap Up
Posted 4/21/2010
The Minnesota Wild finished 11 points behind the Colorado Avalanche for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Center Mikko Koivu led the team in points while left wing Andrew Brunette was the leading goal-scorer.

Scoring was not a huge problem for the Wild, but they do lack a star player that is an elite goal-scorer. Instead, their goals are spread across the board to a number of different offensive players.

It's tough to go and find an elite scorer on the free agent market or to make a trade for one, so Minnesota will likely have to grow one from within their own farm system.

Niklas Backstom was respectable in net, finishing the year with three more wins than losses and a 2.72 goals against average. Josh Harding also saw significant action in net but struggled much of the time.

In the end, the offense and defense was mediocre for the Wild, and they ended up with a medicore team that achieved mediocre results. It all seems to make sense to me.
