Minnesota Wild 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The Minnesota Wild is sitting in second place in the Northwest Division behind the Vancouver Canucks and looking to make a strong second-half push to secure a spot in the postseason.

The Wild is among several teams in the Western Conference teetering on the edge of punching a ticket to the playoffs were they to begin today. However, it's concerning that they have a minus 11 goal differential and have a record below .500 when playing away from home.

Niklas Backstrom has been unbelievable in goal, and the defense in front of him deserves a lot of credit. However, Minnesota has to figure out a way to put the puck in the goal on a more frequent basis. Most playoff teams in the Western Conference can score goals in bunches, but no the Wild.

Minnesota is nine points behind Vancouver for first place in the division, so it seems unlikely they will catch last year's Western Conference representative in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, it would be a big disappointment and fairly surprising if the Wild did not clinch a playoff berth.
