Anaheim Ducks 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/29/2010
The Anaheim Ducks managed to sneak into the playoffs as the Western Conference's eighth and final team two years ago, something that didn't seem to draw the interest of many hockey enthusiasts.
The Ducks made sure they received some serious attention before exiting the playoffs, knocking off the top seed San Jose Sharks, who were bounced in the first round as the No. 1 team in the Western Conference for the second straight year.
Expectations were obviously high for the team heading into last season, but the Ducks weren't up to the challenge. They didn't reach the 90-point mark and missed out on postseason play.
There was some significant offseason losses, as Scott Niedermayer, Mike Brown, James Wisniewski and Steve Eminger all left the club or were traded to other teams. Not a good sign for 2010-2011.
The good news is that the Ducks still have Jonas Hiller in net, and he is one of the top goaltenders in the conference. Hiller will at least be able to keep the Ducks in most games, even if he is being peppered with shots.
While the Ducks aren't terrible, they aren't getting better while the rest of the division has improved. Anaheim will likely fight for a third or fourth place finish in the division and hope that's enough to squeak into the playoffs.
