Los Angeles Kings 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The Los Angeles Kings are expected to be a future Stanley Cup contender and they did not disappoint last year, finishing third in their division, sixth in the conference and reaching the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.

Now that the Kings have gotten back to postseason play, it's fairly obvious that expectations have been raised significantly entering this season and that fans will look for the team to take the next step.

Los Angeles has a lot of very talented younger players who are set on turning the franchise around, and a lot of them know how to put the puck in the net.

Because of all of the ridiculously young talent the Kings have, they opted to stay completely away from free agency over the summer. They let go of a lot of their veteran free agents whose contracts were up, opting to fill those empty roster spots with more young players from within.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick played well for a large majority of the season before struggling down the stretch. Maybe he just was tired from the length of the season, but the Kings hope it isn't a sign of things to come. With one of the top goalies in the AHL, Los Angeles won't hesitate to make Quick its backup.

The Kings are probably still at least a year away for being a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, but trying to win the division and improving on their playoff seed would certainly be a sign of progress.
