Los Angeles Kings 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The Los Angeles Kings are currently in second place in the Pacific Division and putting pressure on the heavily favored San Jose Sharks.
The Kings sit just two points behind the Sharks for the division lead, and this could be a fight to the finish. The Kings have rarely, if ever, been relevant since the days of Wayne Gretzsky, but it looks like that is all changing.
There is, however, reason for pause. San Jose sports one of the league's top goal scoring differential numbers at plus 23 while Los Angeles is +/-0. The fact that the Kings have been able to score to many points this year while not having any advantage in total goals scored over that of their opponents is reason to worry that their record could slip in the second half of the season.
While Los Angeles has benefitted from outstanding goaltending, they are going to have to find a way to score more goals. They have scored the fewest goals in the entire league this year, a shocking revelation for a team that is on the cusp of taking over first place in their division.
