Edmonton Oilers 09-10 Season Wrap Up
Posted 4/21/2010
Congratulations are in order for the Edmonton Oilers, who finished with an abysmal 62 points and were officially crowned the worst team in the NHL.
To top things off, the Oilers got stomped by the Anaheim Ducks, 7-2, in their final game of the season. What a fitting conclusion to a disastrous season.
Edmonton was only one game below .500 at home, but their road record was a complete embarrassment. They won just nine games away from home all season long. They were also 12 points worse than the next worst team in the league.
Left wing Dustin Penner was one of the few bright spots, leading the team in points, goals and assists.
The defense and goaltending was atrocious. Jeff Deslauriers finished the year with a 3.26 goals against average and stopped just 90 percent of the shots he faced. Backup Devan Dubnyk was considerably worse.
There are few things for Edmonton to look forward to with this current group. It's going to take at least a couple of NHL Drafts with a top five pick as well as some quality free agent signings to even think about contending for the playoffs.
But hey, the CFL season is right around the corner!
