Detroit Red Wings 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/29/2010
The Detroit Red Wings were still very successful last year, finishing in second place in the division and fifth in the Western Conference. But it simply wasn't the type of final result we are used to seeing from this franchise.
The Red Wings have been such a dominant team for so long that we've come to expect them be among the NHL leaders in points and to make a Stanley Cup push an annual occurence.
Several of their star players did not put up the type of statistics we are used to seeing from them, which makes some wonder whether the Red Wings might be ready for a hard fall from grace.
The Red Wings did play much better down the stretch, which allowed them to go from the playoff bubble to a No. 5 seed. With the return of Nicklas Lidstrom and some other offseason additions, the team is confident they can make another run at the Stanley Cup.
Detroit can still score goals with anyone, but can they stop the puck from going in their own net? The Red Wings need a focused and healthy Chris Osgood tending the net to be a true Cup contender.
Detroit definitely has a shot at winning the Stanley Cup, and they certainly have the sense of urgency to get it done. Several of their key players are nearing the end of their careers and know that time is running out to hoist the Cup.
