Detroit Red Wings 2010 Playoffs Preview
Posted 4/13/2010
The Detroit Red Wings seem to always be one of the top contender when it comes to the Stanley Cup. This 2010 NHL Playoffs is no different.
Detroit might not be the explosive, dominant team they have been in the past, but they are still plenty good enough to make a run at the sport's most coveted trophy.
The Red Wings have been playing their best hockey down the stretch as they assured themselves a spot in the playoffs. It's a different position for the Red Wings than in the past when they were roaring toward home-ice advantage throughout the postseason.
For the first time in nine years the Red Wings have not won their division. It's a streak that calls to mind the Atlanta Braves' amazing run of National League East titles. Nonetheless, the Red Wings are in the playoffs for the 19th straight season. That's a pretty amazing feat. But instead of being the hunted, the Red Wings are coming into the playoffs flying under the radar and taking the role of the hunter.
As usual, a lot of playoff hockey comes down to goaltending, and Detroit is no different. Chris Osgood has struggled this year, so Jimmy Howard will be the man between the pipes in crunch time.
