Detroit Red Wings 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
It's another NHL season and, surprise, the Detroit Red Wings are in first place in the Central Division and the proud owner of the highest point total in the entire league.

It seems like the Red Wings are at the top of the NHL standings and one of the Stanley Cup favorites every single year. It also seems like many prognosticators write them off lately, saying the team is full of aging veterans who will break down over the course of the season.

Detroit continues to keep Father Time at bay and play great hockey. They lost just two games at home in the first half of the season, an incredible achievement. If there is one chink in their armour, it is the .500 record on the road, which could be due in part to the number of veterans on the team.

That said, the Red Wings won't need to do big things on the road if they continue to play great home, which should be enough to secure the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Detroit is definitely one of the legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, and they could be adding yet another chapter to the great hockey history in Motown.
