Dallas Stars 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/29/2010
The Dallas Stars finished six games above .500 last year, but that won't get you very far in the Western Conference. In fact, it earned them fifth place in the Pacific Division and 13th overall in the conference.

The struggles were not a surprise, especially considering the turnover in key management positions. The Stars changed coaches in the middle of the season and also made a change in general managers.

It was the second straight year that the Stars finished with less than 90 points and didn't reach the playoffs, which is the first time they have accomplished that since 1995. It was bound to happen at some point.

For a team that has been so good for so long, the fall from grace was officially capped off by captain Mike Modano's final game with the Stars. When he moved on, it officially ushered in a new era of hockey in Dallas.

The team also elected not to re-sign goaltender Marty Turco, who was the second most important player on the Stars next to Modano. As for Modano, he ended up signing with the Red Wings.

Dallas shouldn't take a big step back this year despite some of the losses because, honestly, there isn't much room to to down any farther. That said, a pretty good offense likely won't be enough to carry suspect goaltending and defense to the playoffs.
