2009 Dallas Stars Season Update
Posted 3/1/2009
The Dallas Stars are currently in second place in the Pacific Division but fighting for their playoff lives.
The Western Conference has several elite teams and then a huge pack fighting for the final few playoff spots. Dallas is a part of that pack.
They play three of their next five games at home, but there are some tough opponents upcoming.
The team has been shaky of late, having lost three of their past five games, although they did play some pretty good opponents.
Center Mike Ribiero leads the team with 52 points and a club-high 39 assists. Loui Eriksson leads the Stars with 29 goals.
Injuries have really hurt the Stars, as they are currently without two of their best players. Mike Modano and Brad Richards are both on injured reserve, which has forced other players to step up.
Toby Peterson is also out, meaning that the Stars are currently without three of their centers. It's tough to win a lot of games when you have that many guys down at a single position on the ice.
Marty Turco's play in goal has been a bit disappointing to say the least. He is giving up 2.77 goals per game and stopping less than 90 percent of the shots he has faced. They need him to start playing at a higher level.
At least Turco has a respectable winning percentage. Backup goalie Tobias Stephen has been even worse, giving up 3.34 goals per game and stopping less than 89 percent of the shots coming his way.
Dallas is going to need to pick up their level of play over the next month or so if they want to make that all-important push to get into the playoffs. They are right on the doorstep, but so are about eight other teams who are all hungry for a taste of the postseason.
