Chicago Blackhawks 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The Chicago Blackhawks are tied for fourth place in the Central Division despite having just three less points than the top team in both the Eastern and Western Conferences.
The Blackhawks are a victim of the ultra-competitive Central Division, which features four legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. Chicago is just two years removed from hoisting the cup, and after reshuffling the roster a bit last season, they seem primed to make another run at a championship.
Chicago has been the most explosive team in the Western Conference from an offensive standpoint, scoring a league-leading 162 goals. The defense hasn't been stellar, but it's not like they have serious issues on the end of the ice, either.
This Blackhawks team is not quite as talented as the one that won the Stanley Cup two years ago, but it doesn't have to be. They are certainly among the most talented teams in the league this year, and I'd expect them to battle it out for the division title right down to the wire.
