Carolina Hurricanes 2011-12 Mid-Season Review
Posted 2/3/2012
The Carolina Hurricanes have been nothing short of awful so far this season as they sit in the cellar of the parity-filled Southeast Division.
It isn't exactly a shock to see the Hurricanes struggling so much as most analysts predicted a rough season before it even got underway. Eric Staal leads the team with 36 points as of the All-Star break, but his +/- on the year is a number that will make you cringe.
Carolina has barely played .500 hockey at home and has been miserable on the road. They are tied for the fourth-lowest point total in the entire NHL, yet somehow are still in the playoff picture thanks to the parity of the Eastern Conference.
While the Hurricanes are technically still alive in the playoff race, their postseason hopes are essentially all but lost. Unless Carolina has a bizarre turnaround and can play great hockey the rest of the way, they will be sitting home watching the playoffs on television.
