Calgary Flames 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The Calgary Flames went from being one of the better teams in the Western Conference just a couple of seasons ago to a team looking from the outside-in at the postseason last year.
Some key offseason losses, combined with a coaching change, seemed to cause some chemistry issues that Calgary just couldn't seem to sort out. Let's just say the fans were not the least bit pleased.
Despite the team's struggles last year, ownership gave the GM and new coach a vote of confidence, hoping to quiet some of the uproar from the fanbase. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.
The Flames went out and brought back Olli Jokinen and fan-favorite Alex Tanguay, both of whom should instantly make Calgary a better team.
Calgary's forwards leave a lot to be desired, so scoring could once again be at a premium for this group. The problem is that you aren't going to win many games in the Western Conference if you can't put the puck in the net early and often.
Don't expect any miracles out of this group, but it would be a major disappointment if they weren't able to claw their way back into the Western Conference playoffs, even if it was just as the 7th or 8th seed.
