Calgary Flames 09-10 Season Wrap Up
Posted 4/21/2010
The Calgary Flames just missed out on a playoff berth, and their play down the stretch can shoulder a lot of the blame.
The Flames lost their final four games and finished just five points behind the Colorado Avalanche for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
They finished with a winning record both at home and on the road. In fact, the records were nearly identical. Their plus-minus was minus four goals, which is slightly surprising for a team that finished nine games above the .500 mark.
As per usual, it was the Jarome Iginla show. Iginla finished the season as the team's leading scorer and tops in points.
While Iginla is still playing at a high level, part of Calgary's problem was a lack of offensive firepower surrounding their star player. The Flames would do well to go out and find a quality scorer on the free agent market in the offseason.
Goaltender Miika Kuprusoff was outstanding in the net, going 35-28 while allowing just 2.31 goals per game. He will certainly return and leave the team without any worries heading into next year.
