Buffalo Sabres 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/29/2010
The Buffalo Sabres were one of the surprise teams of last year, finishing first in their division and earning the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Sabres rode the back of sensational goaltender Ryan Miller all season long, and he always seemed to deliver. Miller was just tremendous for Team USA during the Winter Olympics, and he appeared to get slightly worn down in the second half of the NHL season.
The Olympic experience might be part of the reason why the Sabres lost to the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs. It was considered an upset, but the Bruins were actually the far more talented team.
Miller didn't get great news this summer when two of the team's top defensemen left via free agency, leaving him a little more vulnerable in the net.
That's not to say that Buffalo is a team that always has to win 1-0 or 2-1. The team finished 10th in the NHL last year in goal scoring, which is pretty impressive when paired with the fact that Miller is such a stalwart in the net.
While there are a lot of question marks about this team, the bottom line is that they have some talent surrounding Miller. As long as the Sabres have Miller in net, they are going to be a factor in the Eastern Conference.
