Boston Bruins 2010-11 Season Preview
Posted 9/28/2010
The Boston Bruins finished eight games over .500 last year, which was good enough for third place in the division and the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
For a team that finished as the top seed in the playoffs the previous season, it was a very disappointing year marked by very inconsistent hockey from a team much too talented to play so poorly at times.
The Bruins were able to rebound somewhat in the playoffs, knocking off the higher seeded Buffalo Sabres in the first round and taking a 3-0 series lead on the Philadelphia Flyers before choking away the next four games.
Boston really doesn't have an area of weakness on the ice, which is the main reason why last year's finish was so puzzling. It's also the main reason why there is so much hope surrounding the team in 2010-2011.
Zdeno Chara is the team's best player and the NHL's top defender. It's weird to see such a tall player out on the ice, but it works to his advantage. He did not win the Norris Trophy last year, but that was more of a reflection of his team's finish rather than his play.
The big question is which Bruins team will show up this season. They are most definitely a playoff team, but will they prove to be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender? It's really anyone's best guess, and only time will tell.
