2011 Big East Tournament Preview
Posted 3/7/2011
With ACC expansion, the Big East tournament has taken over the top spot as the best conference basketball tournament in the minds of many analysts and fans.
There is no bigger stage that Madison Square Garden, and the five day tournament featuring the best conference from top to bottom garners a lot of attention and excitement.
The Big East conference is so competitive this year that teams like Villanova and Connecticut didn't receive a bye and will have to play the opening round. That's simply incredible. Because it is a long tournament, teams that play on the first day typically don't stand a great chance of reaching the finals.
Pittsburgh won the regular season crown and is as steady as they come. The team is lead by four seniors and point guard Ashton Gibbs, who isn't afraid to take the big shot in a critical situation.
Notre Dame is battling for some respect and possibly the final No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. When their shooters are hot and raining three's, it's almost impossible to stop them.
Other teams worth watching and capable of making a run and winning the tournament include St. John's, Syracuse and Georgetown.
