Washington Wizards 09-10 Season Wrap Up
Posted 4/21/2010
The Washington Wizards came into the 2009-2010 season re-energized about the possibility of once again being a major factor in the Eastern Conference postseason picture.
Instead, the season unraveled in a hurry as things didn't go according to plan and Gilbert Arenas turned a disagreement with a teammate into a life-threatening situation.
Agent Zero pulled a gun on Javaris Crittenton over a gambling dispute, only later to say he was just joking around. Some teammates who scattered out of the locker room that day apparently don't agree with him.
Arenas was eventually suspended for the rest of the season by the NBA, but somehow managed to avoid jail time. The team plans to bring him back next season instead of trying to void his contract.
With the team floundering, GM Ernie Grunfeld pulled the plug on the trio that was supposed to lead the Wizards to Eastern Conference prominence. He traded away Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, as well as Brendan Haywood.
In return, Grunfeld brought in a bunch of expiring contracts and a draft pick or two in hopes of starting over from scratch and rebuilding the roster.
It's hard to admit defeat, but continuing on the same course would have just resulted in more heartache down the road.
